About Us

The Wyche and Colwall Horticultural Society evolved out of local support for The Wyche and Upper Colwall Home and Garden Show which was originally held in 1942 as part of the holiday at home scheme.  The show continues as the Society’s annual summer event, the only break being in 2001 due to Foot and Mouth Disease.

We pride ourselves upon the friendly atmosphere at our meetings and other events.  Members are able to hear and meet top class speakers drawn from all over the UK.  As a bonus, within our ranks, we have a number of professional horticulturalists and experienced gardeners, who are always willing to offer advice to fellow members.  Our society has its roots firmly in the gardening community on the western side of the Malvern Hills but has always attracted members from much further afield in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Each Autumn the Percy Picton Memorial Lecture is given by a notable personality in the gardening world.  The Percy Picton Memorial Fund is a registered charity, initiatted by the society as a tribute to the work of their late president.  The charity gives financial support to local students at Pershore Horticultural College.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month in Colwall Village Hall.

Talks start at 7:30pm, unless otherwise stated, but come early to benefit from free tea and coffee and an opportunity to make and meet friends and discuss your gardening interests and questions.

The annual membership fee is £15 per member, payable in January.

Visitors are always welcome to attend meetings at a charge of £5.

A special ticket must be purchased for the Percy Picton Memorial Lecture.

  1. 65 YEARS IN HORTICULTURE Lecture at Pershore College on 19th March 2015

I would be grateful if you could give this event maximum publicity via your society and other horticultural societies/clubs in the Worcester area. Jim Buttress VMH will be well-known as the horticultural expert on The Big Allotment Challenge TV programme being screened on Friday nights. He is a great raconteur will captivate an audience besides being prepared to answer questions on any aspect of gardening, growing, showing, exhibiting etc etc – very involved with the local RHS Malvern Shows & Britain in Bloom so promises to be good evening. Jim is a good friend of mine and I would like to see the Hall at Pershore College full on this occasion. Can you please circulate the poster/flyers to as many contacts you have, encouraging all to apply for tickets from Jill Pearson at Pershore Centre – 01386 554609??

I shall be hosting Jim on his visit to Pershore and want to give him a warm welcome.

    Thanks Bill Simpson.
